Effective and Non-Invasive Cold Laser Therapy: Surrey, BC
Cold laser therapy for pain is also known as low-intensity light therapy, low-level laser therapy, cold light therapy, and low-light laser therapy. This refers to the red and infrared wavelengths of light that are used with this highly specialized piece of medical equipment. The term “cold” to describe the laser is actually a bit misleading, not because it isn’t cold but because it doesn’t use heat to heal.
At Legacies Health Centre, we use a class 4 laser, which is state-of-the-art and is becoming known as today’s standard in care. Completely painless and non-invasive, low-level laser therapy has been scientifically shown to promote healing in a targeted area by over 400%. Working from a cellular level, the cold laser can affect everything from skin, muscles, and tendons to ligaments, cartilage, nerves, and bones.
Although a fairly new and emerging treatment, cold laser physical therapy has gained significant scientific backing and medical support for its effectiveness. In fact, low-light laser therapy for pain has been approved by Health Canada as an effective choice for chronic pain management, and can often achieve lasting results where other therapies have failed.

What to Expect During Cold Laser Therapy: Surrey Legacies Health Centre Procedures
Your initial assessment and screening will be conducted by one of our Doctors of Chiropractic, who will also oversee and evaluate your progress during the treatment course. A specialized and outlined cold laser therapy treatment plan will be given to you during your first visit.
The number of low-light laser therapy visits will range from 10 to 20 sessions depending on your condition, health, age, and several other factors. This is a normal course of treatment for cold light therapy, and we will typically schedule 3 visits per week. To obtain the best results, research shows it takes several visits to begin to create a lasting effect. Most people have very little to no change within the first few visits. Again, this is normal. Significant results should be seen by 10 visits. Often that is all that is required. Sometimes a second course of cold laser physical therapy treatment is advised.
The visit itself is very simple and usually lasts 15 minutes. A trained and certified technician, under the chiropractor’s direction and supervision, will usually apply the painless cold laser therapy treatment. You will be required to wear eye protection, and you will be in a closed room with the technician. Because there is such a great effect on the tissue at a cellular level, you will be advised to drink water to rehydrate after your visits.
Your cold laser therapist will also advise you on how you can best take care of yourself at home for optimal results. During or after cold laser therapy, other services may be recommended if beneficial for your recovery, such as chiropractic care, cold laser therapist, acupuncture, naturopathic services, or massage therapy.
